It was interesting to see the differences in the GLE's across the grade levels. Today we worked on a jigsaw project regarding safe behavior across grades K-8. It was interesting to see where certain topics such as drug abuse and sex education entered into the curriculum. The observation was made that the media component of safe behavior might need to be revised to be included as early as 4th grade. I can see the importance of continual review of curriculum standards changes being made as deemed appropriate with regards to the current social norms.
I am starting to see how the guidelines of the state standards can be used to develop a lesson plan that is both developmentally appropriate and relevant to the students in each grade.
